Jake Gyllenhaal finally opened up about former girlfriend Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well.”
The Grammy-winning artist rereleased her Red album last year which features a 10-minute version of “All Too Well.” Since the original cut from 2012, it has been speculated that the lyrics are based on Swift and Gyllenhaal’s relationship and breakup in 2011. More evidence developed after Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink starred in All Too Well: The Short Film given that their appearances, not to mention their age gap, resemble Swift’s and Gyllenhaal’s.
Gyllenhaal, however, denied that the track has anything to do with him.
“It has nothing to do with me,” the 41-year-old actor told Esquire. “It’s about her relationship with her fans. It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don’t begrudge anyone that.”
Although his Instagram comments are turned off, Gyllenhaal claimed that the past few months have not been hard on him despite the hate that he has been receiving from Swifties.
“My life is wonderful,” he shared. “I have a relationship that is truly wonderful, and I have a family I love so much. And this whole period of time has made me realize that.”
The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time star also discussed his thoughts on cyberbullying.
“At some point, I think it’s important when supporters get unruly that we feel a responsibility to have them be civil and not allow for cyberbullying in one’s name. That begs for a deeper philosophical question. Not about any individual, per se, but a conversation that allows us to examine how we can — or should, even — take responsibility for what we put into the world, our contributions into the world. How do we provoke a conversation?”
“My question is: Is this our future?” he continued. “Is anger and divisiveness our future? Or can we be empowered and empower others while simultaneously putting empathy and civility into the dominant conversation?”
Gyllenhaal confirmed that he has not listened to Red.
