A free VPN for Ukrainian Internet users

Ukrainian software company MacPaw (CleanMyMac), whose teams are still based in Kiev, has decided to offer its VPN free of charge to all the inhabitants of the country, which is currently under siege by its neighbor Russia.

This initiative is intended to secure their connections, in case there's any spying attempts, but also and above all to be able to continue to have access to information and services from abroad, without these being blocked. Note that its ClearVPN software also contains a series of links to support the country (donations, petitions, verified media, etc.). This VPN is available for Windows and macOS.

MacPaw says that most of its infrastructure and user data is decentralized, hosted securely on Amazon Web Services. In addition, the servers for its cloud service are not located in Ukraine.

Note that in Russia, too, the demand for VPNs is increasing, as many people want to be able to receive secure information and communicate with other countries.

VPNs allow internet users to hide their real IP address, thus protecting their identity and location. In this way, it is possible to use sites and services previously inaccessible through 'redirection.'

The cyber security of Ukrainians is a major issue in the current conflict. In the early days of the war, Elon Musk, head of the satellite broadband service Starlink, decided to send reception antennas to the country's authorities and institutions in order to prevent possible internet blackouts.
