Ukrainian officials have revealed that there are two assassination teams trying to kill Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has become the face of his country’s fierce resistance to Russia’s invasion of his country.

The head of the Ukrainian National Security Council Oleksiy Danilov said on Telegram that two groups from the Russian Republic of Chechnya have been sent to assassinate Zelensky. Danilov said one of the Chechen groups is under fire in Gostomel, a northwestern suburb of the capital Kyiv, and the second group in Danilov’s words has been “eliminated.”

Zelensky said that he and his family are Putin’s top targets in his invasion of Ukraine. The leader of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on Telegram on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to give harsher orders to his troops after they have been met with fierce resistance by the Ukraine military and local populations.

The Russian soldiers reportedly have low morale and are ill-equipped. Soldiers from Chechnya are known to be far more brutal in the tactics.
