An all-vegan cooking contest is coming to US TV

In the United States, new eating habits are inspiring new formats for TV cooking competitions. A contest involving professional chefs focusing solely on vegan cuisine is currently being filmed.

It can be hard for vegan TV viewers to identify with the cooking contests currently scheduled on mainstream television. From tofu to plant-based proteins and vegan cheese, it's indeed rare to see animal-free alternatives used by contestants on these shows.

But things are changing in the United States, where a TV cooking competition entirely dedicated to the vegan diet is coming to screens. The project is created by a platform called vKind, which gives advice and recommends brands to facilitate cooking for the vegan community. This cooking contest, free from all animal products, trialed the concept as a single episode, broadcast on YouTube. Following the success of the show and the level of demand, vKind Studios has moved to the next stage by turning it into a TV show, expected to hit screens this summer on the Unchainedtv.com platform, a channel committed to the promotion of vegan food. The show is called "Peeled."

If it's not yet known how many episodes of the show are in store, each one will see the candidate who gets the lowest score eliminated from the contest. At the end, the winner will nominate a charity to receive a check for $1,000. The competition will be held in Las Vegas, in a school that claims to be the first in the United States to teach entirely vegan cuisine.
