As it turns out, Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones has paid nearly $3 million to Alexandra Davis, the woman who claims she is his daughter, and her mother.
Jones’ close friend and Arkansas lawyer Don Jack said in a statement that “[o]n numerous occasions I have made payments on behalf of Mr. Jones to [Davis’ mother, **Cynthia Spencer Davis**] and Alex Davis.”
Davis, a 25-year-old congressional aide, filed a paternity suit against Jones on March 3; she says her mother met Jones met in 1995 when she worked for American Airlines in Arkansas. That same year, Jack said he struck an agreement to pay the mother $375,000 and provide “monthly payments for child support which ultimately totaled over $2 million.”
Jones has yet to acknowledge that Davis is his daughter. When asked why the Dallas Cowboys owner paid millions if the child was not his, a spokesperson declined to comment.
The payment agreement has paid out more than $1.3 million over the past 25 years, and two additional payments are due when Davis turns 26 and 28 years old.
Davis has asked the court to revoke the agreement—agreed to when she was 1 year old—and for Jones to be declared her dad. She claims she’s not seeking money and simply wants to be able to put his name on her birth certificate.
However, Jack said that at a meeting between the two parties at a Dallas restaurant years ago, they asked for $20 million to keep quiet.
“In that meeting, Alex read to me a personal letter she had drafted to Jerry Jones in which she expressed her dissatisfaction with what she had received and sought $20 million,” Jack said. “She stated that if that amount was paid, she would not bother Mr. Jones again and would keep their relationship confidential.”
Things get interesting here, as there is no proof of either the letter or a date of the dinner.
