The Department of Justice (DOJ) is expanding its investigation into the events of January 6, 2021, to review the financing and planning of the “Save America” rally that preceded the Capitol attack.

The DOJ issued sweeping subpoenas over the past few months to those who had knowledge or were involved with organizing the event, at which former President Donald Trumpspoke. The event surrounded Trump’s false claim that election fraud was the reason he lost the 2020 election. He argued that it was “stolen” from him and that President Joe Biden‘s win should not be certified before the joint session of Congress that was slated to happen later that day.

Some of the issued subpoenas are reported to target people in Trump’s inner circle, though the names of the targets have not been revealed.
