The Batman movie was released nearly a month ago on March 4th. While many Batmobiles of the past have been rather exotic and difficult to mimic, the most recent iteration is primed to be recreated by enthusiasts to show off at their local car meet. Because, let’s face it, it looks like an amazing muscle car.
The Batman Batmobile: Early Designs
MC&T previously reported the menacing machine looked similar in structure to that of a C2 Corvette or an old school 1969 Dodge Charger. According to Carbuzz the vehicle didn’t always feature a mid-engine like the 2023 Corvette Z06 however. MensGear also reports the Batmobile could have looked a little more buttoned up than it did on the big screen with smoother body work, and a top exiting dual exhaust system. Designer Andries van Overbeeke had a front engine design that sported a visible gearbox and hexagonal exhaust ports throughout the body work. Furthermore LED lights are also seen on early design sketches that offered an EV feel to it. That makes sense since we’ve actually learned one of the models used a Tesla as its base. The other versions sported a V8 engine capable of hitting 650 horsepower, presumably the LT4 which can be found on the streets today in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and Escalade-V.
All told, the final Batmobile design seen on screen might have been a conglomerate of designs pulled together to fit the theme of the movie, with the final say having to be approved by director Matt Reeves as well as production designer James Chinlund. The final product did in fact incorporate much of the design artwork from Ash Thorp, who shares the final product on his Instagram page where he shares what went into the design process on a personal level.
