Earlier this year, Ram announced that it was working on an all-electric full-size pickup truck. Production is slated to start in 2024, which is behind the competition, but that’s by design. So while we still don’t have a debut date for the version people can buy, we will get to see a concept revealed before the end of 2022. The Ram EV is expected to carry the name “Revolution.”
According to Automotive News, Ram CEO Mike Koval stated that a concept would arrive ahead of the 2024 timeframe. Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether or not the concept we will get to see later this year will be a near-production concept or something more exotic. By way of a series of Ram Real Talk events, Ram is gaining an understanding of what customers want. Automaker representatives directly interact with the public regarding the electric truck, which, combined with the company taking note of what the competition is doing, makes for some very exciting Ram Revolution 1500 pickups.
Ram Revolution: Concept Design
Teaser images were released in March, which offers some clues to Ram’s design direction for the 1500 EVs. The Chevrolet Silverado EV went in a different direction from the traditional Silverado trucks, which is the opposite of what Ford did with the F-150 Lightning, which they made sure looked very similar to the F-series trucks. It’s hard to tell what Ram plans to do with the Revolution line. From the design queues within the most recent teaser images, the windshield is forward-mounted, the hood is shorter, and we can see a large four-door cab. At the back of the truck, there’s a subtle angle in the pillar, while a sizable red outline with bold RAM lettering highlights the tailgate.
While these are just teaser sketches, it looks pretty neat. There’s still plenty of time for Ram designers to tweak the concept before the debut later this year, and seeing the sketches translate into a physical prototype will be exciting.
