The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning plans to begin production at the Rouge Manufacturing Complex in Michigan in just a week from now, on April 26. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. eastern and will be livestreamed at . Ford and UAW leaders will host customers and employees to celebrate the “Job 1” event, which signifies retail production. The Lightning has nearly 200,000 reservations, signaling strong market demand for electric trucks.

A graphic tweet shared from Ford CEO’s Jim Farley’s personal account reveals that “Lightning Strikes” April 26th 2022. Also featured in the tweet is a link to the F-150 Lightning’s build and price tool. This isn’t the first time Farley has used twitter to share inside information about the upcoming F-150 Lightning. In January he revealed that after one week of order books being open, the most popular trims for Ford’s first all-electric pickup truck were the Lariat and Platinum editions and that the company saw the highest demand in Texas, California and New York. Speaking of popularity, celebrities such as The Rock have even expressed interest in owning one. This, while great for Ford, makes things difficult to pinpoint exactly when you will take delivery of your new truck. However, adjustments are being made to avoid what were previously expected to be three year wait times.

The company has had to make adjustments to its production timeline to keep up with customer demand and not lose them to rivals like the Rivian R1T, Silverado EV, and Tesla Cybertruck (supposedly hitting production sometime next year). Ford does have a considerable head start on the RAM Revolution all-electric truck though, which is expected to hit production in 2024. Early on, Ford mentioned the initial plan was to produce just 15,000 units in its first year followed by 55,000 the year after that and eventually hit 80,000 in year four. Now, the plan is to produce 80,000 units in year two. If you ordered one, rest assured, it’s being assembled as we speak at the historic Rogue facility in Michigan.
