FORD F-150 LIGHTNING WILL SOON HAVE TO ANSWER TO THE CHEVROLET SILVERADO EV

While Ford may have begun production on its F-150 Lightning and completely sold out of every trim available, Chevy wants to remind you that they too have an all-electric truck coming soon. And with some unique technology attributes, it could be even better than the Ford. The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will begin production next spring, and already has over 110,000 reservations.

In a new YouTube video, published the same day Ford puts the F-150 Lightning into production, Chevy shares all it can about the upcoming all-electric Silverado. It’s the first all-electric Chevrolet pick-up truck that utilizes GM’s own Ultium Batteries. This modular propulsion system is what GM will use as the basis for other platforms such as the Equinox, Blazer and the GMC Sierra that are going electric soon. The battery pack is already being used on the 1,000 horsepower Hummer EV that is currently in production. The Silverado EV by the way, will be produced at the same re-vamped Detroit Hamtramck Factory Zero plant as the Hummer.

Among many of the highlights in the video are four-way steering, 400-miles of range, and a plethora of storage thanks to the multi-flex tailgate and midgate. Other highlights, not mentioned in the video, include “Wide Open Watts” mode that propels the pickup from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, faster than the Lightning, thanks to its adjusted 664 horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque in “WOW” mode. Something else not mentioned in the video is the price point. There are currently two expected models to come out, the WT and the RST, the former being the more affordable fleet-oriented work truck that has an MSRP of just under $40,000 ($39,900). The RST carries a six-figure MSRP of $105,000 but some dealers are already offering special discounts for your exclusive business, some of which are as much as 5% off. Reservations for the Silverado EV are open, but you can’t build and price them just yet.
