American Idol alum Laine Hardy was arrested for having allegedly placed a recorder in his former girlfriend’s dorm room.

According to the authorities, the singer is now facing felony charges of interception and wire, electronic or oral communication disclosure. After a warrant was issued, Hardy turned himself to the police and is now booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in Louisiana.

The call about the recording device was made on April 7, when the unnamed victim, while watching a movie with her roommate, discovered a recording device hidden under her futon. She said it looked like a phone charger, but she later learned it was a recording device. The victim and the roommate reported the device to the LSU police the next day.

She told officers that she believed Hardy had left the device in her room, as she had noticed that he knew details about her life that she hadn’t told him about.

“The victim advised she immediately confronted him, to which he admitted to her that he left a ‘bug’ in her room but discarded it in his pond,” a police affidavit said.

The singer posted a statement on his Twitter account on Thursday, in which he revealed that he would be cooperating with authorities.

“I understand that my career has thrust me into the public spotlight, and I embrace that wholeheartedly as my entire world belongs to my music and my fans,” Hardy wrote. “However, due to the sensitive nature of this allegation, I humbly ask for privacy at this time. I have the utmost respect for the law and will assist in their investigation as needed moving forward.”
