Here’s something fun, the upcoming 2023 Corvette Z06 appears to be in the refining stages of pre-production; a newly added feature will allow you to customize your launch control RPM’s and tire slippage, an effort made to make your 0-60 time even faster than it already is. The specifics were laid out earlier this year at the National Corvette Museum (NCM) Bash.
The 2023 Corvette Z06 is very fast and that’s due in large part to its hand built LT6 engine. The 5.5L flat-plane-crank V8 pushes out 670 horsepower and can already post a 0-60 time of 2.6-seconds without custom launch control utilizing the Z07 package. That means Corvette is creeping seriously close to taking the Dodge Demon’s claim to fame of having the quickest 0-60 time of a RWD gasoline fed production cars of just 2.1 seconds when fully geared up. The all-electric Tesla Model S Plaid can run 0-60 in 1.98 making it the fastest overall.
Launch control customization really comes in the form of two aides; setting a specific launch RPM as well as being able to control the percentage of allowed tire slippage off the line. Josh Holder, Corvette’s vehicle chief engineer shared in a presentation at NCM Bash (video at the top) that this feature is in addition to the standard launch control and is meant to provide flexibility to changing track conditions should you want to put your 2023 Z06 on the line.
Per Corvette Blogger, the default RPM for launch is set at 4,500 but the custom launch control settings allows you to adjust between a low of 3,500 RPM and a max of 5,000 RPM where engine and torque output are optimized for each RPM selection. The redline for the LT6 sits at a whopping 8,600 RPM. The 2023 Z06 is expected to enter production later this summer so we’ll have to wait until then for someone to try it out and perhaps break a record or two.
