FORD F-150 LIGHTNING IDEA CAME OUTSIDE OF THE COMPANY, SAYS CEO

You may already know the Ford F-150 Lightning started production late last month. Ford CEO Jim Farley told Fox Business that the truck’s existence stems from a major investor who suggested Ford go electric with America’s best selling vehicle. The actual investor name was not mentioned in the article, presumably for personal privacy sake but it’s safe to say now that the suggestion may have paid off in a big way.

While Rivian was first to the all-electric pick-up truck market, Ford was the first of the major manufacturers we’ve grown used to over the years to produce an all electric pickup. The F-150 Lightning beat both the Tesla Cybertruck and the Chevy Silverado EV to the market by quite a margin. The F-150 Lightning has sold out of all four trims ranging in MSRP from 39,974 for the PRO (commercial work truck) to the top of the line $90,874 Platinum. In total Ford has about 200,000 reservations on the books and have been looking to up production to keep up with its sky-high demand. If you want an F-150 Lightning you’ll have to wait until the 2023 model year enters production to even place an order.

As far as the direction of Ford Motor Company, Jim Farley told Fox Business that they have high hopes and expectations of being the best all-electric pickup manufacturer around the globe. The company has done good on that front having yielded a whopping 90,000 reservations that are new to the Ford brand and selling out the all-electric pickup on their first try but they have a long way to go to match or beat their nearly 730,000 ICE F-150’s sold last year alone. Farley did acknowledge that he understands not everyone is ready to make the leap into an all-electric vehicle yet so the company still remains focused on internal combustion engine vehicles such as the Bronco, Mustang, and Super-Duty’s. All of which will remain gasoline powered for the time being.
