Today, millions of people worldwide celebrate the Queen’s 70 years of service as she becomes the first British monarch to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee. More than 16 000 street parties will take place across the four-day weekend.
A new portrait of the Queen has been released. In her Jubilee message, the British monarch thanked all of those involved in four days of celebrations in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth.
“I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions,” said the Queen in her Jubilee message.
“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last seventy years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.”
Today, among the significant festivities are the Trooping of the color and a fly-past witnessed by the Royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
