The off-road scene has gained significant traction recently as people want to get out and explore the world. Having a proper vehicle means you don’t necessarily need to do that while sticking to the pavement. The Ford Transit Trail aims to make a more luxurious experience possible for explorers. While it’s not a Ford Bronco, The Bronco Nation recently posted some images of the upcoming AWD van, with some details.
Ford Transit Trail: Details
The European version of the Ford Transit Trail has been around for a few years now, but in the North American market, Van Lifers tend to prefer the Mercedes Sprinter van due to its more abundant offering of AWD. This trend also created a bourgeoning aftermarket for off-road vans, which is why we got excited when we discovered that Ford trademarked the Transit Trail name for North America, and even more excited when photos began to emerge across news sites of the upcoming new addition to the Ford Transit line. The images presented showcase a van equipped with an adventure package.
Immediately we can see the Raptor style wide vehicle lighting in the grille, unique fender flares, and side steps on the exterior. This particular vehicle doesn’t have a front bash plate which may be present on production models since that’s something found on the Explorer Timberline.
This particular van in the photos is a high-roof Transit 350 model with a 148-inch wheelbase. These larger van configurations do have AWD from the factory, while a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 delivers the push, a $1,775 option. The window sticker also notes that the van features dual batteries, and an auxiliary fuse panel. The pictures indicate that the roof is pre-cut, which is done for customers to install HVAC systems if they wish to do so.
While it’s not entirely clear if the Transit Trail will show up at the upcoming Overland Expo PNW in Oregon happing July 8-10, we’re hoping it does because that could be where we can finally learn more about the Transit Trail beyond what’s presented by these photos. It’s sure to be a desirable platform for many upfitters, and will only help the overlanding aftermarket grow even further.
