Cadillac is revealing its new Hypercar race car this week on June 9, but before that happens, the brand is teasing the machine one final time. The new race car will compete in the WEC Hypercar class, as well as the IMSA LMDh Class. It will begin racing in January 2023, at the IMSA Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. The Cadillac Hypercar is also compliant with ACO regulations, which means it will race at the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The new images don’t give us much more information than what we’ve already seen, but they do show the vehicle in a handsome gunmetal gray, and some serious stealth fighter vibes. The flying aero wing over the diffuser is still wild, while we can now get a better view of the LED headlight, the CFRP splitter (carbon fiber reinforced polymer), and monochrome Cadillac badge.
“While the new race car will take into account IMSA and ACO regulations, Cadillac’s brand characteristics will be instantly recognizable, many of which are seen on our V-Series vehicles today,” Cadillac lead exterior creative designer Chris Mikalauskas said in a statement in February. “It will artistically combine form and function to influence the development of the forthcoming race car. Elements of Cadillac’s brand DNA, such as vertical lighting and floating blades, will be present throughout.”
The vehicle is being developed by Cadillac Racing alongside Dallara, a brand well known for its dominance in endurance racing and the key to the success of the DPi-V.R. Powertrain details are scarce at the moment, but it’s safe to assume that it will be next-level, and feature a common GTP hybrid layout.
Cadillac will join a number of manufacturers who are set to race a hypercar, including Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, Acura, Toyota, Peugeot, Ferrari, and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. BMW has also revealed its own LMDh car, which was coincidentally also developed alongside Dallara.
