Former President Donald Trump may announce his candidacy for the 2024 election as soon as this summer, but his advisers are divided on whether or not he should wait until after the midterm elections to declare, according to a Sunday report from NBC.

The report said that people close to the ex-President have listed July 4 as a potential date for an announcement, but others close to him claimed that Trump has not even decided if he wants to run or not.

It could be an advantage for Trump to declare sooner rather than later to discourage other GOP candidates like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and former Trump Vice President Mike Pence, from announcing their candidacy.

Another perspective includes an early announcement hurting the Republicans in the midterms by taking attention away from them. This could especially affect candidates in tight races.

The former president has been hinting at a comeback campaign for months now.

“The truth is: I ran twice, I won twice and I did much better the second time,” Trump remarked at a March rally in Georgia. “And now we just may have to do it again.”
