Ninja donates $25K to ChillinDude for upcoming heart surgery

Super Smash Bros. Melee veteran Kashan "ChillinDude" Khan recently suffered a serious stroke, leaving him in the hospital with upcoming heart surgery. The Smash community rallied around the pro player, raising over $21K in just under an hour on the GoFundMe his family set up.

While ChillinDude is able to speak and move again, the serious situation has left his family in a panic. Without proper insurance, Chillin faced an early discharge from the hospital despite his condition and upcoming heart procedure. This is what led Chillin's brother to create the GoFundMe, hoping to prolong Chillin's stay and pay for his treatment.

It has now been a little over a day and ChillinDude's family has raised well over $192,000, smashing the previous $100K goal. There have been more than 5,000 donations, some of which have astonished the Smash community.

Earlier today, on June 12, Chillin's family received $25,000 from Tyler "Ninja" Blevins. The famous Fortnite streamer and Smash supporter has showed up in a major way for the veteran Melee pro, making the Smash community emotional — even more emotional than when Ninja promised to donate prize money to an Evo tournament.

Another astonishing donation was made by YouTuber Ludwig, who gave ChillinDude $10,000 for his recovery and treatment. Ludwig is another fan of the Smash esports scene, hosting online Melee tournaments with pretty hefty prizing compared to some official tournaments, which often rely on crowdfunding.

Other top donors include Team Liquid and Team Liquid co-founder Victor Goossens. Team Liquid donated $6,000 to their Melee player and Goossens added an additional $5,000. Many people also donated $1,000 to ChillinDude, some anonymously, showing just how passionate the community is and how supportive it can be.

ChillinDude had been having knee pain for a while now, which ultimately led to an infection that spread to his heart. His family had friends in Southern California check on Chillin after not hearing back from him for days, which resulted in Chillin being found unresponsive on his bedroom floor. He had suffered a medium-sized stroke.

There have not been any updates from ChillinDude or his family just yet, but the goal has been raised to $250,000 with Chillin's heart surgery scheduled for this upcoming week.
