2023 CHEVROLET COLORADO ZR2 OFFICIALLY TEASED

On the market since 2014 as a 2015 model, the Chevrolet Colorado (and its twin, the GMC Canyon) have injected a fair bit of life into what was a stagnant segment, only to have been rewarded with new customers that sought out a midsize truck that didn’t compromise too much on the modern touches. The Colorado portfolio really came into its own with the introduction of the go-anywhere ZR2 model, which had trucks like the stalwart Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro seeking answers. That story continued with the range-topping ZR2 Bison truck. And now, the story is set to begin anew. Today, the next-generation 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 was officially teased, and its full debut is just over a month away.

We enhanced the zoomed out clip to get a better look. You’re welcome.## 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2: What To Expect

MC&T first reported in 2019 that General Motors was working on an updated architecture that would support the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, dubbed 31xx-2. Building off today’s current 31xx midsize truck platform, the architecture accommodates for improvements that off-roading enthusiasts are looking for. Namely, bigger tires with the ZR2 model, as well as a new powertrain. Gone is the 2.5L inline four in the base truck, the 3.6L V6, as well as the 2.8L Duramax diesel engine. All three combustion engines will be replaced by the 2.7L L3B turbocharged four cylinder engine with varying outputs, depending on the trim level. The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is expected to be the most powerful of the lineup. The truck is also expected to feature a new “Baja Mode” off-road setting to go with its rock-crawling pedigree. The ZR2 is expected to maintain its winning formula that consists of Multimatic DSSV dampers, improved approach/departure/breakover angles, and underbody plating. We also see this recipe in the larger Silverado ZR2, and eventually the Silverado HD ZR2. GMC AT4X equivalents will also be available.

In the teaser video, we get a few glimpses of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 design. It’s unclear if the large brush guard and bed-mounted sport bar will be official accessories, or if they’re part of a factory package. The “CHEVROLET” lettered tailgate makes a return, and either a black bowtie logo or a hollowed out “flowtie” logo will feature itself front and center of the upper grille. The new headlight design is teased, as well.

Be sure to check back with MC&T as we count down to the official 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 reveal on July 28, as there are sure to be a few more teaser images and videos along the way.
