Republican U.S Senate candidate Herschel Walker has made multiple false claims that he was once an FBI agent and a police officer, which have recently surfaced.
Georgia voters are now asking if Walker was truly a part of any law enforcement agency in the past.
In 2013, Walker made his first claim that he worked in law enforcement during a suicide prevention event for the U.S. Army.
“I worked in law enforcement, so I had a gun. I put this gun in my holster and I said, ‘I’m gonna kill this dude,'” Walker said.
In 2017, Walker made a more specific claim: “I work with the Cobb County Police Department, and I’ve been in criminal justice all my life,” he said.
And two years after his initial remarks, Walker claimed he was a part of the FBI during a speech at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
Walker stated: “I spent time at Quantico at the FBI training school. Y’all didn’t know I was an agent?”
The claims have led some to wonder if Walker’s claims are true.
According to a campaign statement, Walker majored in criminal justice during his tenure at the University of Georgia. And for a time, Walker was reportedly an honorary deputy in Cobb County.
However, the Cobb County Police Department has no record of Walker being an honorary deputy.
Walker’s claims of working with the FBI are also false. The agency requires at least a bachelor’s degree and Walker dropped out before completing his degree.
When asked about his training, his campaign pointed to a 1989 article about Walker at the FBI school in Quantico, Virginia. While Walker only attended for a week as a celebrity guest, Special Agent training requires a minimum of 20 weeks.
Despite Walker’s supposed smooth relationship with law enforcement, in the past, Walker threatened a shootout with police in 2001 during a domestic disturbance call.
