Mitama Matsuri
Held annually to honor the spirits of the deceased, Yasukuni Shrine's Mitama Matsuri is one of the biggest summer festivals in Tokyo. Some 30,000 lanterns will guide your way to the shrine, while a variety of performances, food stalls, traditional stages, and games will keep visitors entertained day and night. One of the most famous and picture-perfect summer festivals in Japan, regardless of what your views on the controversial shrine are, this one is a must-go! Consider going during the week to avoid the big crowds or watch the live steam from home.

Curry and Music Japan 2022
Held across one weekend in July, Curry and Music Japan is an annual event that takes place across from the iconic Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse in Yokohama. As the name suggests, expect to sample different varieties of curry alongside musical performances from the likes of Phono Tones and Rhymester among many others.

Eco Edo Nihonbashi Festival
Head over to Nihonbashi for some summer feels. Savor traditional Japanese sweets as you stroll the streets of this historic district donned in a kimono. You can also take the night cruise, see 200 wind chimes line the streets leading up to Fukutoku Shrine and spend time cooling down at the Immersive Museum. Experience summer to the fullest with a day around Nihonbashi.

Midtown Summer 2022
