The internet went wild after Apex Legends pro Dilly was permanently banned from Fate Legion tournaments for teabagging his teammate in a match. Andrew “F8Shakeweight” Antle, Fate Legion’s owner, has decided to respond to the ongoing controversy surrounding the ban.
According to a press release from Antle, Dilly “altered” the facts to “start a riot” on social media over Fate Legion‘s decision. Antle explained that Dilly was disqualified “in the moment” when he teabagged his teammate but was allowed to finish the tournament and receive the team’s prize money for its second place finish.
The verbal ban from Antle while shoutcasting was “in the heat of the moment” and Dilly wasn’t set to receive a punishment. That has since changed.
Antle continued to explain that Dilly could have appealed the ban and would have been forgiven if he showed proof that he was teabagging his teammate’s death box and not an opponent. He took umbrage with the fact that Dilly discussed the ban on social media.
“What you have seen on Twitter was him taking the time to go into his own broadcast, clip what he needed, fabricate content to slander our tournaments, and pushed it to his friends to widespread instead of reporting things properly,” Antle wrote.
In the press release, Antle went on to say that Dilly sent an “obscure message” to staff saying how terrible the tournament is. Antle said that he was “willing to ignore the admin abuse” but then staff caught wind of all the drama unfolding on Twitter, including influencer JakeLucky allegedly asking the gaming community to join the Fate Legion Discord to “speak to us on the subject” and sharing social media handles that people used to send “hate and death messages.”
Is teabagging considered unsportsmanlike in esports tournaments?
After discussing the drama itself, Antle noted that teabagging is not sportsmanlike, even if it’s teabagging your own teammate. He explained that it’s inappropriate for the event’s viewers and may even become “contagious” behavior within the gaming community.
Antle and Fate Legion are standing by Dilly’s ban, especially after the drama that unfolded on social media.
“We at Fate Legion would like to apologize to the gaming community for the disruption this has caused you. As new tournament organizers, we simply wanted to put on the best and most respectable tournaments around but came up short in our logistics due to the excitement of being granted the opportunity to host Apex Legends private lobbies. Again, we apologize for the turmoil caused by this incident and will strive to do better in the future,” Antle concluded.
