JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said Indonesia will speed up several Japan-backed projects in the country during a meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, Wednesday, July 27.
“Several strategic projects brought up during the meeting need to be soon completed, including the second phase of Jakarta MRT [mass rapid transit] system project of the north-south and the first project of east-west line,” Reuters YouTube Channel quoted President Jokowi.
“[The projects also include] industrial estate in West Papua, expansion of Patimban Seaport and toll roads access to Patimban Seaport,” the President said.

He said that it is hoped that the existing projects will be completed on time and he looked forward to new Japan’s investments in various fields.
The two leaders also discussed the commitment to continue the development of the gas-rich Masela Block project in Maluku in eastern Indonesia.
Jokowi underscored the importance of Japan’s continued support in the area of technology to develop several strategic projects in Indonesia such as the natural commodity downstream, electric vehicles, as well as health and food sector.
“We invite Japan to support the acceleration of achieving net zero emission target by implementing innovative technologies such as using hydrogen and ammonia [for renewable energy],” he said.
Jokowi, host of the Group of 20 summit in mid-November, is visiting his counterparts in East Asia countries. He met with China’s President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang yesterday. Jokowi is scheduled to meet South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in Seoul on Thursday.
