Has Riot Games removed your Valorant and LoL account?

Can’t log in to your long-forgotten League of Legends or Valorant account? Riot Games likely removed your account in a mass delete wave.

Riot Games has numerous game titles, but League of Legends and Valorant are the most popular ones. Due to their peaking fame, the two games have many bad actors who create new accounts to tinker with ranks. Few hackers utilize their main accounts to employ third-party software, and trolls also prefer fake accounts for harassing other players. The high number of malicious actors has led to a stagnant pool of data due to inactive accounts.

Riot Games has removed all inactive accounts recently, so Valorant and League players may want to revisit their old IDs to confirm.

Why is Riot deleting inactive accounts?

The main goal behind mass deletion is to ensure player privacy while maintaining game health. Useless data only acquire space and doesn’t benefit players or the developer, Riot revealed.

“We’re committed to only keeping data around for as long as necessary, and this means removing accounts that both haven’t been active in a while and never did much to begin with,” Riot Games said.

This means that if you haven’t logged into your Valorant or League of Legends account in a while, it may be gone forever. However, the removal wave isn’t random. It has specific criteria that an inactive account must meet in order to be removed, and it’s pretty stringent. So, if you occasionally logged into your account in the past three years, you’re safe.

Accounts must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for deletion as a result of inactivity.

  • Account is inactive (hasn’t been logged into in over three years)
  • Account did not purchase any game currency in its lifetime
  • Account did not receive any game currency in its lifetime
  • Account has played fewer than 20 hours
  • Account does not own any rare limited edition game entitlements

How to find out if your Riot account has been deleted?

If your account has been marked for deletion due to inactivity, you will receive an email at the email address we have on file for your account. You will not be able to log into any of your games, applications, or web properties with the exception of support.riotgames.com.

Players can still prevent their accounts from being deleted, as the wave begins in the next few months. So, if you receive an email flagging your account as inactive, you may want to log in again and contact player support.
