The all-new S650 Mustang is set to make its debut on September 14, and Ford is teasing the new badge and V8 sound ahead of its debut. Once again, Ford is more or less confirming a 5.0L Coyote V8 engine for the 2024 Ford Mustang, which as we originally reported nearly a year ago, will be the last V8 muscle car on the market.
2024 Ford Mustang Gets An Updated Pony Badge
The new Mustang will sport an updated pony, which has been made to look more modern and more aggressive by the addition of chiseled features and more stylized details. The effect is a more three-dimensional logo, which fits better with the character of the muscle car, heading into its seventh-generation.
S650 Mustang Coyote V8 Engine Sound
Accompanying the video is a sound clip of what’s to be a 5.0L Coyote V8 engine starting, burbling, and then finally taking off, tire squealing and all. We’re not sure what format the V8 will take, but judging by the relatively low redline and throaty idle, it’s likely not a flat-plane crank deal. At least, not yet.
There’s more than meets the ear when it comes from the sound byte, as well. After the Mustang hits redline, there’s a distinct gap in between the gears, hinting that we will likely be getting a manual transmission option.
The exhaust sound is also a welcome one, as it means that the next generation of Mustang will not trade its explodey bits for electric ones, as Dodge is apparently doing with the upcoming Challenger and Charger. Ford even went so far as to cancel its hybrid program for the Mustang, likely due to the success of the fully-electric Mach-E.
All this means that the new Mustang will be a muscle car in the purest sense and likely one of the last vehicles built to carry that monicker. The all-new Mustang will debut at the Detroit Auto Show, following a Stampede of Mustangs traveling from Washington to Michigan for the event.
