At the IFA 2022 trade show in Berlin, the South Korean manufacturer Samsung announced that, by the end of 2023, all the appliances it manufactures will be smart, in order to meet individual consumer needs and reduce energy consumption.

Samsung's aim is to provide customers with home appliances that are both more sustainable and energy efficient. This process has already begun with the introduction of a made-to-measure service, which allows customers to buy appliances according to their specific needs and lifestyles, depending on the country, for example. This is already the case with a new generation of refrigerators, which are almost entirely customizable. Their fronts are made up of interchangeable panels, allowing users to choose the color and finish to help the appliance fit perfectly into any kitchen. These can then be changed at any time without having to replace the whole refrigerator. Likewise, an additional module can be added at a later date to provide extra storage space. After the refrigerator, other household appliances will benefit from this type of innovation.

And from now on, artificial intelligence will also play an increasingly important role. For example, by automatically determining the most energy-efficient programs, depending on the type and quantity of clothes placed in a washing machine. It will even be able to synchronize several actions involving multiple appliances, if necessary. But to make this happen, all the appliances need to be connected to the home Wi-Fi network.

That's why Samsung has announced that, by the end of 2023, almost all of its household appliances will be connected and Wi-Fi enabled. The idea is to be able to control appliances remotely, via dedicated mobile applications, but also to let artificial intelligence optimize their usage to consume as little energy as possible. This should allow consumers to significantly reduce their energy consumption, without any direct intervention on their part.

As such, for Samsung, the future means 100% smart household appliances, from refrigerators and washing machines to tumble dryers, vacuum cleaners and even ovens.
