Huskers Stay Perfect With Long Beach State Sweep

A date with No. 11 Stanford is next for Nebraska volleyball

Nebraska volleyball is still unblemished at home this season.

The No. 2 Huskers (7-0) had yet to drop a set at the Bob Devaney Sports Center entering Saturday's match against Long Beach State. That perfection continued with a 25-16, 22, 14 sweep.

Now having run the 6-2 offense in more than half of their matches this season, it looks to be the system that coach John Cook is preferring during the non-conference portion of the season. Cook utilizes out of conference games as a time to experiment and find what he likes best for Big Ten play.

Nicklin Hames and Anni Evans again split setting duties. Evans had a team-high 17 assists with Hames just behind at 15. The two led Nebraska to a .283 hitting percentage for the match.

Four Husker hitters notched better that .300 hitting, led by Whiteney Lauenstein's team-highs of 12 kills and .381 hitting. She also tied for the team-high with four blocks.

Madi Kubik (.333) and Bekka Allick (.308) finished with eight kills each. Kubik's kill to end the second set made her the 24th Husker in program history to 1,000 career kills.

Kaitlyn Hord added four kills on .333 hitting to go with four blocks.

The match was also a homecoming for former assistant Tyler Hildebrand and former middle Callie Schwarzenbach.

The Hildebrand era has sparked a threefold increase in home attendance for the Beach so far this season. Schwarzenbach had one kill and three blocks Saturday.

Nebraska stays home Tuesday to host No. 11 Stanford.
