Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will not have multiplayer

The Nintendo community has been left a bit shocked at a recent Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope update. Despite earlier speculations, it’s been confirmed that the new strategy game will not include multiplayer.

Mario + Rabbids is coming out in just a few weeks, leaving fans of the series clamoring for more updates. So far, all of the gameplay and trailers have focused on the single player campaign, but will Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope have multiplayer?

Luckily a developer has finally come forward with some much-needed news. But it’s probably not the information most Mario fans wanted.

Will Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope have multiplayer?

The short answer is no, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will not have online or in-person multiplayer.

In an interview with Nintendo Everything, associate producer Quentin Correggi revealed that multiplayer is not part of the Sparks of Hope experience. He explained that this game will be much more ambitious than the first Mario + Rabbids, meaning the team was more focused on the strategy of the single-player mode.

The solo campaign is the main focus of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, said Correggi. Every member of the team has been dedicated to perfecting this complex experience instead of splitting up the team to work on a separate multiplayer mode.

Despite the sound reasoning, this has left some players a bit surprised since Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle had two forms of multiplayer. One of the multiplayer options was local co-op, which allowed players to team up with friends to take on a variety of challenges. The other was a local versus mode, which had people facing off against each other.

Both of these modes won’t be present in Sparks of Hope but players are hoping that the single-player mode will be extensive and challenging enough to make up for the lack of game modes.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is coming out on October 20, 2022.
