Japan's current account surplus shrank to 58.9 billion yen ($404 million) in August, the Finance Ministry said Tuesday.
Among key components, the country had a goods trade deficit of 2.49 trillion yen and a services trade deficit of 615.9 billion yen, according to preliminary data released by the ministry.
Primary income, which reflects returns on overseas investments, posted a surplus of 3.33 trillion yen.
