Orianna was disabled at Worlds 2022 following a visual bug that incorrectly displays the location of her ball.
League of Legends is no stranger to bugs and glitches, and there’s perhaps nobody better at finding those discrepancies than the content creator and bug-finder supreme, Vandiril. The bug in question occurred in the Group Stage game between Rogue from the LEC and VCS representative GIGABYTE Marines.
Riot Games was quick to react, disabling the champion entirely until further notice.
Why was Orianna disabled at Worlds?
Orianna is a control mage whose kit focuses on one mechanic, a clockwork ball from which all of Orianna’s abilities emanate. This ball can move independently of Orianna, so tracking where it’s headed is crucial. In the game between Rogue and GIGABYTE Marines, Rogue’s mid laner, Larssen, cast Orianna’s ball movement, ultimate, and her shielding ability at nearly the same time.
The resulting bug displays Orianna’s ball as being on top of her due to the shield ability, and when Larssen casts his ultimate, the shockwaves appear around Orianna’s model as though she had ulted on top of herself.
However, the actual shockwave effect happens further forwards, where Larssen had directed the ball before it returned to shield Orianna. This means that the massive ultimate is invisible where it’s actually happening.
This bug could possibly change the outcome of entire fights, with an invisible shockwave catching opponents unaware.
How long will Orianna be disabled for?
Though she was disabled for a few days, LoL Esports has announced that a solution had been found and applied to this particular bug. This means that Orianna would be reenabled for the rest of Worlds.
This isn’t the first time Riot has had to deploy hotfixes during Worlds due to a bug, but it’s one of the quickest responses that the League of Legends developer has had to an unintended interaction. It’s not the only bug plaguing Worlds though, with Vandiril pointing out Gnar’s errant boomerangs showing up and affecting the outcome of a dive.
