FLOOD: Action Aid Distributes Over 20 Million Naira Food Intervention to Sabara Community, 2 others in Jigawa

About seventy (70) Households in the Sabara community in the Miga local government area of Jigawa state benefited from food materials to reduce hardship caused by a flood that affected the community on Saturday.

The intervention facilitated by Baba Azimi Foundation (BAF) has made an impact on the lives of people in the community most of the people have been affected by the flood.

The flood which was caused by the running water from Tiga Dam ravaged about 20 houses in the community.

The items include 25kg of rice, Ok oil, farm oil, Maggi, and salt among other materials for each Household.

Sabara community is an agrarian community that mostly defends farming and has no school both western and religious, the source of water is from two Boreholes.

The community has no good access road which affected their farming activities by transporting their farm products to markets.

The Executive director of BAF, Barrister Aisha Suleiman said the intervention has been supplied to help those that lost their properties and farm in the flood.

She said the households have been selected in the entire community and in which their wives received the materials in their presence to avoid plagiarism.

The Hajiya Suwaiba Dankabo Director program of Action Aid said the intervention is an emergency response program of Action Aid to help those that need help as a result of certain phenomena.

Dankabo said Sabara in Miga local government is a pilot community as they are to support three communities in three local governments, these communities include Diwigi in Gwiwa local government, Rakwata Sale in Kaugama local and Sabara in Miga local government of Jigawa state.

She said Action Aid spends about 20 million nairas in the provision of relief materials as part of efforts to cater to needy persons in the communities.

Witnessing the distribution, the representative of the state emergency management Agency SEMA in the local government who is a zonal officer Alhaji Musa Mada on behalf of the executive secretary of the Agency Alhaji Yusif Sani Babura appreciates the efforts of Baba Azimi Foundation in facilitating the program and as well thanks the Action Aid for allocating the sum of money for the support of flood victims in Jigawa state.

Also the vice chairman of Miga local government, Honorable Muhammad Ahmad Burji expressed his happiness about the intervention.

Burji said Miga local government is among the LGAs that were affected by the flood, adding that the flood was a result of running water from Tiga Dam Kano state.

He said 34 communities and 6725 Households were affected in which 14 people were dead as a result of the flood in the local government.

The vice chairman said the victims lost their farm products, some people lost their Houses many people were injured and hunger strikes them.

Muhammad Burji added that the state, local government, and individuals are supporting the victims but yet there is a need for more hands.

The village head of the Sabara community Suleiman Abdullahi also expressed his happiness for the intervention by the Action Aid to his people.

Tabawa Garba Dankuce a mother of 12 that lost them all also expressed her happiness for the relief materials, she said she doesn’t have anybody that could help her with the hardship she is experiencing.

Daily Trust reports that Action Aid is implementing a program for children in the three communities and as a result of the flood, the program stopped and wish to continue as the flood withdrew.

Sabara community is a community that has children, women, and youth, but all of them don’t go to school, both religious and western education, but as a result of the Action Aid program in the community, some children started going to school, yet the area doesn’t have a school until they go to a nearby community, the children don’t usually go.

The reason for that is that the two communities don’t unite, they are fighting themselves according to the people of Sabara village.

The state government has to come to their Aid for the women and children to start going to school for the community’s development.
