NGO FTM-CODE Organizes Town Hall Meeting on CTAP II in Jigawa

Primary health care centers in Jigawa state have been rated as the most functional centers across Nigeria.

The Jigawa state coordinator Connected Development (CODE) on Covid-19 Transparency and Accountability Project (CTAP), Adam Suleiman Stated this when he is presenting the Summary of Jigawa state primary health care centers status during a town hall meeting in Madobi PHC Dutse on Thursday.

Suleiman said they sample 33 PHCs across the state 32 out of the total number have separate toilets for men and females representing 97 percent, 30 out of the 33 have access to clean water representing 91 percent, waste collection points 29 PHCs representing 88 percent, 10 out of 33 PHCs have a functional incinerator, 19 out of 33 PHCs have their west bin color coded representing 58 percent, and finally on WASH 27 out of 33 PHCs have clear and visible signpost on their toilets.

On personnel, the coordinator said according to the findings 4 out of 33 PHCs met the required standard of medical officers, on community health officers 16 out of 33 PHCs met the required standard, while Nurse/Midwifery 5 out of 33 met the required standard with 15 percent, pharmacy technicians 12 out of 33 PHCs met the required standards, J-chew 3 out of 33 PHCs met the required standard with 9 percent, While health attendants 16 out of 33 PHCs met the required standard with 48 percents.

Also, he said on the Pharm. Fridge 27 of the 33 PHCs have Pharm Fridge, in which functional temperature log found in 27 out of 33 PHCs, 20 out of 33 PHCs have a cooling van for vaccine transportation.

He said the data indicated that the total number of vaccines received since March 2021 is 372,591, in which the total number of vaccines administered is 351, 447.

He said on service delivery, 32 out of 33 PHCs offer anti-natal care services, 24 out of 33 have delivery rooms in their facilities, 31 of 33 have maternity lying-in wards with 94 percent, in which 30 of 33 have ward development committee WDC, 32 out of 33 PHCs have a functional laboratory and finally, 27 out of 33 PHCs have an in-patient ward.

The state coordinator said the analysis was carried out in 18 local government areas across the 3 senatorial zones of the state.

Responding, the executive secretary of Jigawa state primary health care development agency JPHCDA Dr. Kabir Ibrahim Aliyu who was represented by the Diractor of the Agency Dr. Shehu Sambo commended the efforts of Connected Development CODE for its tremendous achievement towards carrying the multiple tasks of PHCs in Jigawa.

He then appreciated the data presented before him.

Dr. Sambo said the Jigawa state government is working day and night to see that the health sectors in the state are up to standard and functional.

Sambo said currently Jigawa state government is to employ 300 midwifery but unfortunately only 150 midwifery the government received across the 27 local governments of the state.

He advised the parent and good people of the state to send their children to school and study Midwifery as we have a scanty number of midwifery in the state.

He commended the Jigawa state government in its effort to promote the health sector and ensure better health for especially women and children.

He said government still looking at the areas that need to be adjust and plunge into action by providing the needful.

He also promised to always look after the PHCs for security purpose.
