The Dodge Challenger is well known as a hefty car, but it’s nevertheless right at home at the drag strip. In fact, with variants such as the legendary Demon, Super Stock, and 1320 Scat Pack, one might say it’s a specialty. Nevertheless, there’s room for improvement. And in the pursuit of speed, one heroic Challenger Scat Pack 1320 owner decided to remove all the unnecessary weight he could from his muscle car to achieve the fastest quarter mile time possible.
Dodge Challenger 1320 Lost Weight: Details
Chris Ulanowicz is a proud owner of a 2020 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320. The software engineer made it his mission to make his 1320 one of the fastest while remaining in basic stock form. He purchased his Challenger 1320 in February 2020 but had to wait until June to take delivery of his car. As far as modifications go, the Challenger features a Mopar Cold Air Intake. Chris also installed an oil catch can early on and heat-wrapped the air box to help keep the engine bay heat off. Finally, the car has also been equipped with the Z-Automotive active exhaust deletes, which always keeps the valves in the wide-open position.
Chris equipped his Dodge Challenger 1320 with Billet Specialties Wheels and Mickey Thompson Drag radials, but the rest of the car is stock beyond those modifications. Everything else done to the car focuses on weight reduction, and according to DodgeGarage, everything not necessary to drive the vehicle was removed down to minor nuts and bolts. The only exception was the A/C unit, an essential piece of hardware when living in Texas. The items removed from Chris’s Challenger 1320 include the following:
- Front sway bar
- Horns
- All engine bay plastics/covers
- Passenger and rear seats
- Door trim panels
- Rear quarter trim panels
- Carpet
- Headliner
- Glove box assembly
- Dash bezel
- All 6 Alpine speakers
- All seat belts (except the driver seat belt)
- All trunk trim
- Fog lights
- Windshield wiper system, including reservoir, wiper arms, linkage, and motor
- Active exhaust actuators
- Passenger side view mirror (Chris uses the same Mopar block-off plate in its place that comes in the demon crate)
A few items were replaced with lighter variants, including:
- Kirkey 55 Series lightweight seat to replace the driver’s seat
- Lightweight front bumper support
- XS Power lightweight lithium battery
When Chris initially took delivery of his Dodge Challenger 1320, it weighed 4,140 pounds without him in it. After the aggressive lightening of the car, it comes in at just over 3,600 pounds without him in it and with a quarter tank of fuel. Quarter mile times before modifications were done to the car were 12.21 at 112.09 miles per hour. After reducing the weight, the Challenger finished a quarter mile at 11.034 seconds with speeds over 121 mph. You love to see it.
