Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania Dr. Mehmet Oz is being mocked on social media for showing he had no clue that the Pittsburg Steelers wouldn’t be playing last weekend.

“Tomorrow morning (Sunday), when you awaken, I want you to contact 10 people — do it at church, do it before the Steelers game, just find the time,” he said on Saturday during a rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania hosted by former President Donald Trump. “Here’s the question you’re going to ask them. ‘Are you happy with the way America’s going?'”

But what began as an effort to strengthen the connection with the local community turned into a gaffe because the Steelers were on a “bye week” on Sunday with no scheduled game.

The moment opened an avenue for Oz’s Democratic opponent John Fetterman renew his criticism that the Republican, a longtime New Jersey resident, doesn’t know the state he wants to represent. The Democrat pointed to the fact that the team would not play this weekend.

Political commentator Keith Olbermann joked that Oz was referring to “Jersey City Steelers.”
