GODZILLA-SWAPPING THE FORD F-150 LIGHTNING WAS POPULAR AT THE SEMA SHOW

One of the most fun things about the SEMA Show is coming across some creations people have made within their garages. One great example of this is a Whipple supercharged Godzilla V8 engine placed under the hood of a 1993 Ford F-150 Lightning. Of course, the supercharger helps considerably boost the engine’s power output. But, what’s most notable about this build is how clean it is and how much it looks like it came straight from the factory.

REVan Evan shared a video showcasing the supercharged Godzilla F-150 Lightning in full on his YouTube channel. The truck uses a US Shift quick shift controller. This learning controller improves the torque output of the 6R80 transmission and works as an excellent solution for the Godzilla, given the amount of power it offers. The supercharger provides 6 pounds of boost, bringing the power out to 819 lb-ft of torque at 2,200 RPM. Meanwhile, a full boost brings the power output to 880 ponies and 1,135 lb-ft of torque.

The truck features drag tires at the back, which have lost quite a bit of rubber, which means someone had some fun in the truck, though there aren’t any 1/4 mile numbers to reveal. One of the most incredible things about this truck is how, if the hood was shut. No one would know what was at the heart of this vehicle. In fact, with the hood open, the uneducated might need help understanding what makes this thing so unique.

People were assuming that the engine under the hood of this 1993 Ford F-150 Lightning was an LS, which is why the owner placed a Godzilla action figure on top of the engine with a note that said that it’s not an LS. However, given that the owner only has the engine tuned to 6 psi of boost, we can’t help but wonder what it would be capable of if that number was increased and it was taken onto a track. Without a doubt, the truck would be able to achieve 10-second times, paired with a fantastic roar from the engine.

That wasn’t the only Godzilla-swapped Ford F-150 Lightning at the SEMA Show. Just outside Central Hall was a second-gen Lightning, also featuring a Godzilla V8 engine. However, unlike the previous build, this one featured a ProCharger centrifugal supercharger instead of the Whipple twin-screw supercharger setup, and a 6R80 transmission. All of this goes to show that even though today’s “Lightning” name is found on an electric truck, builders and enthusiasts still have a fondness for the original recipe, and the desire to improve on it.
