Will there be a Black Friday Steam sale? Here’s everything we know

Steam will have a Black Friday sale, but it won’t work quite the same way as other major retailers.

Black Friday is the perfect time to grab gifts for the holiday season, and sales are an expected part of the tradition. Digital game stores like Steam have followed suit, but the biggest PC gaming storefront does things a little differently from the rest. Here’s information on Steam’s Black Friday plans and what gamers could expect from the sale.

Will Steam have a Black Friday sale in 2022?

Based on previous years, Steam will host the Autumn Sale to coincide with Black Friday.

Steam often hosts big video game sales to celebrate the changing of seasons, and the next one just so happens to coincide with the greater discount tradition. The exact dates of the sale are not yet announced, but previous years point to November 22, 2022, as a potential start date. The event will last for around a week, plastered all over the front page of the Steam store so gamers can’t miss it.

What Steam games will go on sale for Black Friday?

Based on previous Steam Autumn Sales, thousands of digital PC games will go on sale for Black Friday.

The only way to know for sure is to check the sale once it goes live, as Valve does not publicly list deals before sales go live. It’s fair to expect most games older than a few months will get some kind of discount. However, recently-released AAA games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will probably still cost full price.

In addition to software, Valve may also put some of its hardware on sale for Black Friday. That could mean price cuts for the portable Steam Deck PC and the Index, which is Valve’s room-scale virtual reality system. Both items will be hot commodities as flashy Christmas gifts, and a sale would make both devices much more accessible for the holidays.
