Gates' Top Team From Week 11

It’s time to select a Team of the Week. This time around, the honor belongs to the Detroit Lions.

The Lions’ Rushing Attack

The Lions’ rushing game was exceptional against the New York Giants. Jamaal Willams had 17 carries for 64 yards and three touchdowns while D’Andre Swift contributed five rushes for 20 yards. They even had some of their wide receivers toting the rock. Kalif Raymond and Amon-Ra St. Brown each rushed for seven and four yards, respectively.

Moderate Receiving Day

The Lions didn’t have the most impressive receiving day, though they weren’t alone. Throughout the league, the pass-catching performance was relatively unimpressive. Detroit’s leading receiver, St. Brown, had seven receptions for 76 yards. Raymond added three catches for 33 yards. Finally, the Lions got tight ends Tom Kennedy and Brock Wright involved, something they didn’t do while they had T.J Hockenson, who is now with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Upset

Entering this game, the Lions’ record was 3-6 and the Giants’ was 7-2. Thus, the Lions certainly weren’t favored to win. In the end, though, not only did they win, but it was a decisive win. The final score was 31-18, Detroit.

The Team of Grit

The Lions are a gritty football team, and even though their record doesn’t show it, they are competitive every week. Detroit has shown that it can get wins against solid teams like the Giants, Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and Green Bay Packers. They even came close against the Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins.

Realistically, if luck fell their way more often (calls, challenges, and field goals), Detroit could have been a seven-win team following Week 11.
