Even though Cadillac has seemingly poured a generous amount of marketing dollars into its all-electric campaign, including already paving a path for an all-electric Escalade. The gasoline fed monster muscle car of the brand, the CT5-V Blackwing is making a splash of its own. The Blackwing recently set the record for fastest production sedan at the Dubai Autodrome GP Circuit.
The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing finished the 3.35-mile circuit with a time of exactly 2:17.653 minutes.
Under the hood, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing features a supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 engine producing 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque, overpowering the 640 hp CTS-V that came before it. All of this power is sent to the rear wheels, which is now a rarity in the luxury performance sedan segment. The Audi RS6 and RS7, BMW M5, and Mercedes-AMG E63 amd GT 63 S are all running AWD configurations these days, because ze Germans can’t help but copy themselves. As a result, they’re all heavier, and despite the extra grip off the line, are all less powerful than the mighty American.
It’s not just brawn, either. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing also benefits from a sophisticated chassis that incorporates Magnetic Ride Control 4.0. As such, the suspension dampers feature a wider calibration bandwidth, and are able to respond to variable road settings faster than ever before.
As for aerodynamics, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is equipped with a front under-wing that produces a low-pressure zone, enabling cool air to be directed to vital parts of the car, and in turn aid its overall balance around the track.
Cadillac unveiled the 120th Anniversary Edition of the Blackwing earlier this year at auction wearing an arctic white dress. The record breaking CT5-V Blackwing, however, wore satin grey setting off its 19-inch alloy wheels finished in a tech bronze.
