GMC HUMMER EV PICKUP NEEDS TO EVENTUALLY OFFER MOONSHOT GREEN

The GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 is coming in 2023, and with it will be an exclusive paint color: Moonshot Green Metallic. It’s a matte finish unlike any other hue in the GM color wheel, save for the very short-lived Dark Emerald Frost that was briefly found on the Blackwing Cadillacs. Meanwhile, the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is currently only available in a single color: Interstellar White. Though, there’s nothing stopping customers from wrapping their white electric super trucks in whatever color they want. Meanwhile, the Hummer EV3X pickup trim level will soon add Void Black, Meteorite Metallic (Gray), Deep Aurora Metallic (Dark Bronze), Afterburner Tintcoat (Orange), Tide Metallic (Ice Blue), Supernova Metallic (Dark Blue).

But no Moonshot Green. At least, not officially.

At the moment, GM Defense has been parading around the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 in a particular military green wrap that’s quite close to the matte emerald coming to the SUV. The truck is being used for promotional purposes, but it doesn’t stop the 1,000 hp electric truck from looking damn near perfect in the earth-tone hue that appears to be shared with the Chevy Colorado-based Infantry Squad Vehicle and Silverado-based Light Utility Vehicle (pictured below).

This lizard-skin chroma is a natural fit for the hulking Hummer truck. Hopefully it becomes available to customers.

GM Defense Hummer EV Pickup: Details

Earlier this year, we reported that GM’s subsidiary GM defense was selected to provide a battery electric vehicle (BEV) for analysis and demonstration to the Army. They chose to offer a GMC Hummer EV pickup which could be what has been circling around the internet. GM Defense was expected to deliver the Hummer to Army Contracting Command Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan, at the end of August.

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 can generate 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque and is capable of 350 kW or 800V DC fast charging, which enables up to nearly 100 miles of range in 12 minutes of charging. The Edition 1 offers 329 miles of combined driving range, and the vehicle can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds. GM Defense hopes the demonstration will show the U.S. Army what an all-electric super truck is capable of. Still, we’re sure the silence of an electric vehicle will also come in handy for the military. It was later reported that GM Defense is putting together a prototype for the Army that will take on the form of an Electric Light Reconnaissance Vehicle or eLRV.
