Woman Dies In Potato Chipper After Horrific Conveyor-Belt Accident In Brazil

A woman died in a tragic accident after she fell onto a factory conveyor belt in Perdizes, Brazil.

Rafaela Alves dos Santos was working at the factory in southern Brazil when she fell onto an industrial potato chipper. It switched on automatically, according to a witness. She suffered fatal head injuries after being sucked into the conveyor belt.

An investigation at the company, Bem Brasil Alimentos, is ongoing to determine why the machine turned on. The factory produces frozen potato chips for supermarkets.

“Bem Brasil regrets the death of an employee of a contracted third-party company that provides services to Bem Brasil,” the company said in a statement. “Following its policy of work safety, Bem Brasil has already started the process of investigating the cause together with the competent bodies.

The 24-year-old moved to Perdizes with her family and lived with her older sister and cousins. She was originally from Santa Luzia do Itanhy and was trained as a nurse technician.
