TikTokers seem to like learning new things, with "TikTok Taught Me" content multiplying at speed on the Chinese social platform this year. So much so that the trend has become one of the site's most viral of 2022.

#LearnOnTikTok, the hashtag used for videos with an educational vocation, keeps on growing on TikTok. In October 2022, the hashtag already had over 412 billion views. It has since continued to boom, rising to 454.8 billion views in early December 2022.

The Chinese social media giant has always shown a taste for educational content, notably featuring the #TikTokAcademy hashtag on its "Discover" page, and which now has more than 17.5 billion views. #TikTokTaughtMe, meanwhile, has over 12.5 billion views.

As part of its end-of-year round-up, the social network -- which is increasingly finding use as a broader entertainment platform -- looked back over the year's top educational videos, unveiling its Top 10 in the "TikTok Taught Me" category.

And it seems that TikTok users were interested in sign language, easy recipes and unusual tips. In the US, the platform's users were most interested in a video from @oursignedworld, an American family in which only the father is deaf. The video of the mother teaching her hearing daughter how to get her father's attention scored over 30.3 million views.

The video of @cookingwithlynja making three different grilled cheese sandwiches came second in the list, with more than 89.7 million views, while @brunchwithbabs' tip for carving pumpkins in the run-up to Halloween ranked third among the most popular videos in the US in the "TikTok Taught Me" category, with more than 28 million views. Tutorials on makeup and sports were also of interest to users.

Worldwide, @efritaasmr's culinary video, mixing ASMR and a simple recipe, tops the list with more than 33.8 million views. The same video from the @oursignedworld family takes second place, while another video revealing Inuit facial expressions used for communication takes third place, with more than 11.9 million views.
