Steve Bannon is not impressed with Donald Trump‘s foray into NFTs. The ardent Trump supporter and conservative talk show host took to the air this week to chastise the former President.
“I can’t do this anymore,” Bannon said on The War Room.
Trump released a series of 45,000 non-fungible tokens last week. The trading cards display Trump as a chiseled, masculine fighter with superhero capes, wrestling rings and championship belts. The NFTs were $99. They sold out, with a few reportedly garnering up to $8,000 after their initial release, but were widely mocked on social media.
Saturday Night Live even parodied them in its cold opening.
Bannon took particular aim at the people around Trump, going so far as saying they should be fired.
“We’re at war,” Bannon said. “They oughta be fired today.”
Bannon was joined by right-wing commentators Sebastian Gorka and Steve Cortes, who echoed his sentiment.
“Whoever wrote that pitch should be fired and should never be involved,” Gorka said about the staff around Trump’s re-election campaign.
“Donald Trump should not be doing this kind of video. The video shows a lack of discipline and focus, and to take on the intelligence community is going to require unbelievable steely discipline and focus,” Cortes said of the video marketing the trading cards.
The move into NFTs has been widely criticized across the aisle. Democrats have rejoiced in the absurdity, while conservatives like Ben Shapiro have mocked the release as “cringeworthy” and a “money grab.”
