The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck is coming up on its final lap of its development cycle before it reaches the garages of fleet customers later this fall. With that in mind, the engineering team is busy living with these electric trucks day in and day out, validating them in the real world outside of the controlled confines of the GM Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan.
Recently, Silverado EV Chief Engineer Nichole Kraatz concluded a 7,700-pound trailer towing test and lived to tell the tale. Because not only are electric trucks safe, they can tow things, too. An essential task considering that 87 percent of all Chevrolet Silverado EV reservation holders signaled that they intend to tow things, based on a GM customer survey.
The 2024 Silverado EV WT shares many of the baseline features with the RST but without the headlining numbers. Built off GM’s advanced Ultium EV Platform already employed beneath the GMC Hummer EV, the Silverado EV WT offers 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque and promises an estimated 400-mile range from a full charge.

Eventually, the Chevrolet Silverado EV WT is expected to offer a max tow package sometime after launch which will bump the trailing figure up to 20,000 pounds max towing. Which is pretty incredible for an electric truck.
In a similar fashion to Ford’s ProPower Onboard, the Chevrolet Silverado EV WT will offer an available PowerBase power bar charging system. The kit will offer up to 10 outlets and provide a total of 10.2kW of onboard power for work or recreational needs, including powering your home via bi-directional charging. A perfect setup for a California, a state known for its extreme EV policies and rolling energy blackouts. Fun!
The Chevrolet Silverado EV will be offered exclusively in Crew Cab models equipped with a 71-inch bed. Without an engine under the hood, the space between the front and rear seats could be expanded by elongating the cab both forward and rearward. And because there’s just one body style, the Silverado EV comes with a mid-gate partition that opens up the truck bed to the cabin, allowing for the truck to swallow nearly 12 feet of object. The same feature will be found in the upcoming GMC Sierra EV.
Eventually, a retail version of the Chevrolet Silverado EV WT will become available to customers, and will carry an MSRP of $39,000 USD. Granted, that’s the price they told us a year ago, Chevy’s affirmed that they will stay firm on the price, which is now about $15,000 less than a Ford F-150 Lightning.
