A new generation of connected ski goggles is about to hit the slopes. These smart goggles feature augmented reality, and will be able to display a variety of information in the wearer's field of vision, such as speed or the direction to follow.
The Swiss startup Ostloong presents Sirius, its connected, augmented-reality ski goggles, providing access to a wide range of information in the wearer's field of vision, such as speed, the direction to follow or off-piste areas. Ostloong also promises to display a host of contextual data, such as altitude or weather conditions, all of which is a major first. To make the ride even more exciting, it can also add virtual elements to the landscape, such as ground markings or slalom poles, for a resolutely unique skiing experience.
In addition to augmented reality, the mask incorporates other technologies, such as eye tracking, voice commands and a camera to take pictures or film yourself racing down the slopes. Connected to the wearer's smartphone, it can even be used to take calls at any time.
Such a device could enhance the practice of snow sports, whether skiing or snowboarding. In addition, these smart goggles could be suitable for other types of outdoor activities, such as hiking or cycling.
The start-up says that Sirius will be available in several versions to pre-order from February, with prices as yet unconfirmed.
