Ex-Police General Ferdy Sambo Sentenced to Death in Indonesia for Murder Case Ferdy was found guilty of committing premeditated murder of his aide Brigadier J and attempting to cover up the murder assisted by his subordinates.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Former head of the Indonesian police’s internal affairs division Ferdy Sambo was sentenced to death for the premeditated murder of his own aide-de-camp Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, or Brigadier J.

The panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court handed down the verdict as Ferdy was found guilty of committing premeditated murder of his aide-de-camp Brigadier J and attempting to cover up the murder with the help of his subordinates at the National Police headquarters.

“We declare the defendant, Ferdy Sambo, beyond reasonable doubt guilty by the law of involving in a premeditated murder and unlawfully causing disordered electronic systems,” said Presiding Judge Wahyu Iman Santoso on Monday, February 13.

“The defendant gets the death penalty.”

Previously, the Indonesian prosecutors demanded life imprisonment for the masterminding of the murder. The prosecutors also found enough evidence that Ferdy’s wife, Putri Candrawathi, and other aides, Second Patrolman Richard Eliezer (Bharada E) and Brigadier Ricky Rizal (Bripka RR), as well as driver Kuat Ma’ruf, had assisted the premeditated murder.

The prosecutors charged Putri, Ricky Rizal, and Kuat Ma’ruf with an eight-jail term, respectively for their role in the murder of Brigadier J. Meanwhile, Richard was charged with a 12-year jail term for his role as a suspected shooter which resulted in Brigadier J’s death.

Enough evidence was found to prove that the disgraced two-star general had violated the premeditated murder under Article 340 in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code. Ferdy had been also found guilty of obstruction of justice for attempting to cover up the murder, which was against Article 49 of Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code.
