Airbnb is well known for promoting unusual - some may say gimmicky - listings, ranging from Barbie’s Dream House to Shrek’s Swamp from the animated classic. For May, the holiday rental company has launched a new category they’re calling Icons. Eleven have been released so far, ranging from a once-in-a-lifetime stay at Paris’ iconic Musée d’Orsay during the Olympics, to a night in the balloon festooned house from Pixar favourite ‘Up’. A good enough place to stay is apparently not good enough for Airbnb. Brian Chesky, chief executive of the accommodation giant, believes he has found a way to compete with the hotel industry: weird, wacky and extraordinary experiences. In a new section of the app called "Icons", you can book an overnight stay in places like the Ferrari Museum, Prince's Purple Rain mansion and even the floating house from the animated film "Up" (recreated by Airbnb with 8,000 balloons). According to insurance firm Réassurez-moi, the price of booking one night in Paris or a neighbouring area during the Olympic period stood at €436 in April, down from €1,023 seen in July last year. The drop in prices, experts say, is primarily caused by an excess of supply. Last month, when speaking to Reuters, Paris deputy mayor for housing Jacq...
