One person has died aboard a flight travelling from London to Singapore on Tuesday, which was battered by severe turbulence, according to Singapore Airlines. The plane was diverted to Bangkok, where emergency crews rushed to help injured passengers, amid stormy weather. The Boeing 777-300ER, with 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board, landed safely in Thailand's capital, the airline said in a Facebook post. Tracking data captured by FlightRadar24 and analysed by The Associated Press showed the flight suddenly and sharply pitching down over the course of three minutes. The aircraft stayed...

Munich Airport faced significant disruption on Saturday morning when climate activists from the Last Generation movement breached the grounds and glued themselves to a runway in protest against climate policy. The demonstration, which coincided with one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, led to the temporary closure of the airport and resulted in numerous flight cancellations and delays. The activists, who criticised government subsidies for the airline industry, targeted the airport to highlight the environmental impact of air travel. "Problem is the government, not our holiday," rea...

Joni Vorpsi was protesting outside the Albanian Parliament when he heard the draft law he was there to stop had passed. Law 21/2024, as it’s officially known, is a nightmare for environmentalists as it enables the construction of five-star mega resorts anywhere in the country - including protected natural areas. Its approval came in February, three days after Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner went public with his plans to create two resorts by the Vjosa River delta, an ecologically priceless wetland. “It was devastating,” says Vorpsi, a project manager at the Protection and Preservation ...

Los Angeles (AFP) - Lawsuits are flying in a dispute between two California airports over the right to use the name "San Francisco" -- despite neither of them being in the city. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is suing the recently renamed San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK), insisting the similar sounding names might confuse potential passengers. Their lawsuit has been met with a counterclaim from The Port of Oakland asking a judge to rule its airport's new moniker -- which replaced "Metropolitan Oakland International Airport" -- is not a copyright infringement. "C...

Travellers booking with budget airlines often see their arrival at a regional airport and extended journey to their destination as the price they have to pay for a low-cost fare. Fly with a low-cost carrier to Paris and you’ll probably land at Beauvais-Tillé Airport some 85 kilometres northwest of the capital. Book for Milan and you might arrive at Orio al Serio International Airport, closer to the city of Bergamo than to Italy’s fashion capital. But instead of viewing this as an inconvenience, consider using it as a way to explore some of Europe’s unsung cities. Wander canals and sip prosecco...

E-gates at airports across the UK have returned to normal following a mass outage which caused disruption and huge queues for thousands of passengers. On Tuesday, the electronic gates Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol airports stopped working, delaying passengers who were trying to cross the UK border. The British Home Office has ruled out a cyberattack as the cause. They say the widespread delays were down to a nationwide technical outage. "As soon as engineers detected a wider system network issue at 19:44 pm last night, a large-scale contingency resp...
