Subscribe to Taste of Country on Youtube You don’t need to go back 20 years to find a time when talking about weed was taboo in proper country music circles. Really, you don’t even need to go back five years! “Sun Daze” was a 2014 hit for Florida Georgia Line, and it surely made this list of 11 songs that helped normalize pot smoking. Medical or recreational marijuana has been legalized in many U.S. states (or soon will be), and there’s not as much outrage over it today as there was before. Did country music help? This list of songs serves as Exhibit A that … maybe? Of course Willie Nelson mak...

Today we celebrate Kurt Cobain‘s legacy, 30 years later. The Nirvana frontman died on April 5, 1994 at the age of 27. He was found in his greenhouse several days later, and the moment the news broke, the world stood still for a moment. The rocker had helped ignite a rock ‘n’ roll movement, and now he was gone. Cobain and Nirvana had an enormous impact on future generations of rock, with many younger bands citing them as a huge influence on their own musical journey and style. Thus, he was nicknamed “The Voice of a Generation.” The musician struggled with his mental health and substance abuse t...

Jon Bon Jovi looked back on keeping Hugh McDonald’s work with Bon Jovi a secret, as the group tried to cover for original bassist Alec John Such. McDonald was a key member of the team from its earliest days, playing bass on “Runaway” on Bon Jovi’s self-titled debut album, and continuing to contribute from then on, often without a credit. When Such departed in 1994, McDonald became the full-time bassist, but was only made an official member in 2018. Such died of a heart attack four years later. Jon Bon Jovi looked back with regret on some of Bon Jovi’s early music videos, saying the promo for debut single “Runaway” was one of the worst they’d ever done. In the band’s defense, he said they’d had no control over videos in those days, and by the time they did they knew exactly how to avoid bad production. “I’m not a filmmaker,” Bon Jovi accepted in an exclusive conversation with UCR. “Some of them we really got right, and others we didn’t. God knows things like ‘Runaway’ and some of those early ones were just dreck!” READ MORE: Jon Bon Jovi Fought Off ‘Dark Misery’ to Make New Album ‘Fo...

And it turned out to be true! “He had a guitar, so therefore he was the guitar player,” Slash says with a big laugh. He then became inspired to become a guitarist afte...
