According to the Euronews Super Polls, one thing looks certain: after the 6-9 June elections, the European Parliament will have a clear right-wing majority. Furthermore, the forces of the conservative camp — from the centre-right to the far-right — will have to overcome deep rifts and contradictions among each other to craft a functional alliance. Meanwhile, the conservative groups will hardly be able to join their forces in one strong coalition. Socialist parties have been slightly and steadily growing for three months, while the liberal-democrats of Renew are on a fast-declining path. Finall...

Two parties, two countries, one goal; to change Europe from within. Populist rhetoric is expected to score big in the European elections, with polls suggesting far-right and hardline conservative parties will become the third biggest force in the next European Parliament. Germany will elect highest number of MEPs among member states, 96. The country's far-right party Alternative for Deutschland, AfD, aims to have 20 of them. But will they succeed? We need more power to the nation states. We need less competences in Brussels. Shrugging off scandalAfD remains in a strong position despite several...

The deep rift between the right and the centre-right in Poland could hinder the making of an overarching EU conservative coalition despite overwhelming popular support for Polish conservatives, according to the Euronews Polls Centre's analysts. The Euronews Superpoll examining odds ahead of the 6-9 June European elections predicts a neck-to-neck race between the nationalist right-wing Law and Justice or PiS party chaired by Jarosław Kaczyński and the moderate conservatives of Civic Coalition (Koalicja Obywatelska, KO), the current ruling party in Poland. According to the most recent projection...

The man who has been fronting the far-right Identity and Democracy’s European elections campaign is confident that the European Parliament's two most right-wing factions will join to form a united bloc during the upcoming legislature. In an interview on Tuesday, Anders Vistisen told Euronews he believes there is no substantial political rift between his Identity and Democracy (ID) party - which harbours Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National, Italy’s Lega and Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) - and the nationalist European Reformists and Conservatives (ECR), considered slightly less ...

Love. The Italian DJ Gigi D'Agostino sings so beautifully about it in the techno anthem “L'Amour Toujours”. But now the 1999 song is on the red list for some. At the Munich Oktoberfest in Germany, organisers want to ban the song to prevent racist singing by beered-up visitors as it has taken on right-wing extremist connotation in recent weeks. “We want to ban it and I will ban it”, Oktoberfest boss Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) told the German news agency dpa. “There's no place for all that right-wing bullshit at the Wiesn,” he added, using the colloquial name for the event. The Oktoberfest is a “...

Self-described left-wing conservative politician Sahra Wagenknecht splintered off from the German Die Linke party last year to form her own. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance — Reason and Justice (BSW) and its pledge to stop weapon deliveries into Ukraine now promise to split the AfD vote, potentially winning seven seats in the Europan elections in June. A former MEP and Bundestag deputy since 2009, Wagenknecht also advocates for raising the minimum wage to €15 per hour and wants to water down climate change policies. Many see the party as a good alternative to the far-right parties that threaten...

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz began his European election campaign on Friday, warning against the next president of the European Commission seeking backing from far-right parties, projected to make major gains in next month’s vote. European left-leaning parties are urging mainstream conservatives and liberals to reject alliances with far-right parties following the European elections. A major rightward swing could pose challenges for the next EU Commission president, who must secure approval from a majority in the new pan-European parliament. Leading the 27-bloc effectively might prove difficu...

The next European Commission will be more right-wing than the current one, Nicola Procaccini, co-chairman of the Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament, tells Euronews in a 'Global Conversation' interview. Procaccini criticised many of the initiatives taken in the last five years by the European Commission supported by popular, socialist and liberal parties, which he considers too 'left-wing'. He agreed 'very little' with the actions of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and also criticised the decisions made by Frans Timmermans, the vice-president respon...
