Tajikistan's government passed a law banning the hijab, the latest in a string of 35 wide-ranging religion-related acts, in a move described by the government as "protecting national cultural values" and "preventing superstition and extremism". Following news that dissident rapper Toomaj Salehi had been given a death sentencefor his involvement in the widespread protests that swept Iran in 2022, Salehi’s lawyer Amir Raisian has confirmed that the sentence has been overturned.
